Homeowners in Chicopee, MA will be able to participate in a solar PV rebate program through their municipal utility, Chicopee Electric Light. Chicopee is offering these rebates in support of renewable energy. Solar rebates are limited to the first 15,000 watts annually – so that means only about 8 Chicopee homeowners can benefit from the incentive each year before it runs out so act fast!
In Massachusetts, local municipal utility plants are not included in the state’s Commonwealth Solar II rebate without “paying” into the program. The only alternatives for these municipalities are to fund their own solar PV rebate or not offer any solar incentive at all. Luckily, Chicopee Electric Light has chosen the latter.
The rebate for photovoltaic solar installations is $2.50 per watt for a maximum of $5,000 per installation. I’m sure you can do the math, but that means the rebate is only good for the first 2 kilowatts per project. The good news is that the Chicopee solar rebate at $2.50 per watt is a lot more generous (per watt) than the state rebate which starts at $1.00 per watt.
You should keep in mind that a solar rebate is only one out of many incentives that are offered for Massachusetts solar installations. Rebates are not available for “do-it-yourself” projects and installations must be completed by professional, licensed solar contractors.
