Our 5 Favorite Towns to Install Solar Panels

We feel very lucky to call Massachusetts our home.  Although we have enjoyed installing solar panels throughout the Bay State, there are a few towns that stand out as our favorite places to be.  We ranked our top 5 choices based on a combination of non-scientific factors, including proximity to our location, responsiveness or knowledge of the building department or municipal light plant, special incentives for solar, and our experience with the residents.

Marlborough, MA – Brightstar Solar’s hometown had to be our number one choice!  Nothing makes us happier than building solar panel systems here.  The town department is extremely easy to work with and you just can’t beat the commute!

Andover, MA – We are proud to be the solar installer who has done the most work in Andover.  With 8 installations under our belt, we have a real soft spot for this town.  If our customers are a litmus test for the rest of the town, you won’t meet nicer people! Of all the towns we have worked in, Andover residents stand out because of their passion for sustainability.  The electrical inspector even has a PV system on his own house!

Shrewsbury, MA – We heart Shrewsbury for a number of reasons.  SELCO is hands down the easiest municipal light department to work with.  The people working at SELCO are extremely knowledgeable and efficient and they have the best solar loan program in the state, offering 0% up to $10,000.   Shrewsbury is also home to a family-owned Christmas tree farm we were fortunate to work with last year.

Sharon, MA – This is slowly moving up the list as one of our favorite towns to work in.  We have had the opportunity to install panels for a lot of nice families in this town and the Sharon building department is top notch!  A side benefit of working in Sharon is our crew’s daily trips to Ward’s Berry Farm, home to some of the best pies and berry smoothies in Massachusetts.

Framingham & Natick, MA – We realize that Framingham and Natick are distinct, but we decided to lump them together because we just couldn’t decide between these neighboring towns.  They also share a region called the “Golden Triangle,” one of the largest shopping districts in New England.  It’s only February, but they rank at the top of our list for signed contracts in 2014.

Honorable Mention goes to Sudbury, Wayland, Waltham, Watertown, Sutton, Walpole, Worcester, Stoughton, Carlisle, and Ipswich.

If you live in one of the towns above, we would be happy to tell you why local residents choose Brightstar Solar for their solar panel installations.  If we didn’t list your town, we would love to have a reason to mention it next year. Brightstar Solar is a licensed Massachusetts solar installer who is familiar with navigating local codes and regulations, maximizing state and municipal incentives, and helping you find creative solar financing solutions.
