Make the Most of Mass Save Energy Efficiency Programs

Massachusetts residents and business owners are in luck with the large depth of services and incentives available through Mass Save to promote efficient energy practices.  I’m sure a lot of people haven’t heard about their free energy assessments, rebates, low interest financing, and energy assistance for income-eligible customers.  Programs vary by Massachusetts city and town so please check the website to confirm you qualify.

Mass Save is an initiative funded by Massachusetts’ gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency providers, including Bay State Gas Company, The Berkshire Gas Company, Cape Light Compact, National Grid, New England Gas Company, NSTAR, Unitil, and Western Massachusetts Electric Company.  The sponsors of Mass Save are working in tandem with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to establish and facilitate a wide range of services, incentives, trainings, and information advocating energy efficiency programs to help residents and businesses manage energy use.

As a local Massachusetts solar installer, it is important that we encourage our customers to take a holistic approach to energy usage.   Solar photovoltaic energy is a great way to offset electricity demand, but consumers should also think about ways to cut their usage.  Additionally, residents should also be thinking about their home’s thermal envelope (insulation and air leakage) as an opportunity to save energy.  Mass Save’s energy assessment, which is oftentimes free for homeowners, can identify cost effective home energy improvements and /or replacement opportunities.

Not only do many Massachusetts residents qualify for a free home energy assessment, but they also have many opportunities to save money while they make energy improvements.  A homeowner can qualify for a 75% rebate available up to $2,000 for completion of recommended upgrades.   In addition, there are numerous other rebates for heating and cooling systems, programmable thermostats, and appliances like washers and dryers as well as discounted pricing on lighting products.

There are also many incentives available for Massachusetts businesses that are constructing new facilities or installing energy upgrades to existing buildings.  In order for businesses to compete in the current economy, they need to make decisions that will decrease their ongoing costs and increase their profit margin.  Mass Save allows companies to do that by making energy improvements at a discounted cost.  Businesses have the opportunity for incentives to upgrade their heating, water heating system, chillers, electronic lighting controls, commercial kitchen equipment and much more.  Please see the Mass Save website for more details.
