Huge Strides for the Massachusetts Solar PV Industry

Today, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) announced the enormous progress they have made toward the state’s solar energy goals.  Moving forward, they will keep the community aware of new developments in a similar quarterly update.

Some highlights from this afternoon’s announcement include:

–  Since Governor Deval Patrick took office in 2007:

  •  The installed solar capacity in Massachusetts has swelled from 3.55 MW to 77 MW by year end 2010.
  •  Jobs related to solar manufacturing, installation, and services have tripled.
  •  Solar manufacturing jobs have increased 300%.

– MassCEC granted $5.2 million in rebates funding 167 PV systems in Q4 2010, producing 2.7 MW of solar power.

– The solar PV installations (mentioned above) were placed in service in the following Massachusetts towns:  Acton, Acushnet, Amherst, Arlington, Auburn, Barnstable, Barre, Belchertown, Bellingham, Billerica, Boston, Bourne, Cambridge, Chatham, Chelmsford, Chilmark, Cohasset, Colrain, Conway, Dartmouth, Deerfield, Douglas, Dover, Dracut, Eastham, Easton, Edgartown, Fairhaven, Falmouth, Fitchburg, Gardner, Gill, Gloucester, Grafton, Granby, Great Barrington, Greenfield, Hamilton, Harvard, Harwich, Hatfield, Haverhill, Lawrence, Leicester, Leominster, Lincoln, Lowell, Ludlow, Lunenburg, Lynn, Marion, Mashpee, Mattapoisett, Medford, Melrose, Middlefield, Millis, Milton, Monson, Montague, New Bedford, Newton, North Andover, Northampton, Northborough, Northbridge, Northfield, Oak Bluffs, Orleans, Pembroke, Pepperell, Phillipston, Pittsfield, Plainfield, Plymouth, Princeton, Provincetown, Quincy, Rehoboth, Royalston, Sandwich, Sherborn, Shirley, Somerset, Somerville, Springfield, Stoughton, Sunderland, Swansea, Truro, Tyngsborough, Upton, Wareham, Wendell, Westport, Whitman, Wilbraham, Williamstown, Worcester, and Yarmouth

Thank you, Governor Deval Patrick, for making the commitment towards a sustainable energy strategy!  These are big wins for the state of Massachusetts put us in a competitive position to own a large part of the renewable energy industry in the United States – which means jobs for many years to come.

Massachusetts is one of the best states in the country to make a solar power investment.  Rebates are not available for “do-it-yourself” projects and installations must be completed by professional, licensed solar contractors.  Brightstar Solar is an expedited Massachusetts solar installer with experience working with the Mass Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) solar rebate programs.  Please reach out to us if you’re interested in a complimentary solar evaluation and free estimate for your home or business.
