Connecticut Solar Lease Only Accepting 100 New Leases

It’s official.  The Connecticut (CT) Solar Lease Program is open again, but it’s only going to be available for a limited time.  They don’t have the funds to keep the program open indefinitely.  The program estimates it only will accept about 100 new leases before the program is closed again.  If you’re interested, contact a solar installer to submit your CT Solar Lease application before it runs out.

The CT Solar Lease Program is a unique opportunity to get solar panels in the hands of moderate income households.  It is a special leasing plan especially for Connecticut homeowners.  Typically, commissioning a solar system on your roof would require a large upfront investment.  With CT Solar Lease, the program would actually own the solar installation installed on your roof and lease it out to you a low, fixed monthly payment of about $120 for an average home.  With most households in participating in the program, you can start to see the savings on your electricity bill almost immediately.

Who’s Eligible for CT Solar Lease?

Eligibility is based on income that is 200% or less of your town’s median income for your household size.  I think people will be pleasantly surprised how many Connecticut residents qualify.  Here’s an example:  A two-person household in Westport can have up to a $195K income and still meet the criteria.  Go to the CT Solar Lease Town by Town guidelines for more information.  In order to be eligible, homes must also be owner occupied one to four family homes and owners must meet debt to income restrictions.

Easy Steps to See if You’re a Candidate for the CT Solar Lease Program

  1. Contact a Connecticut solar installer to see if you have a good site for solar electric system and get an estimate of the costs.  Your contractor will be looking for unshaded roof space with a southern orientation.
  2. Your installer can help you with application or you can apply directly on the CT Solar Lease website.
  3. CT Solar Lease should have a decision no later than the next business day on your application.
  4. Sign your Solar Lease Agreement and work begins on your installation.
  5. Sit back and enjoy the savings on your electricity for years to come!

This program will not last long so I urge CT homeowners to act quickly.  In the last 5 to 10 years, the price of electricity has risen 7 to 11% on average in the state.  Connecticut resident have been paying one of the highest electric rates in the country in recent years.  The CT Solar Lease gives homeowners a chance to protect them from increases in electricity and lock in their rate on energy generation for the next 15 years.
